FAQs

Can HappySkin be used with moisturisers or prescribed treatments?

HappySkin can be used as part of your child’s wider skincare and treatment routine, but the garment must be worn directly against clean skin.

Do not apply creams containing paraffin, petroleum or oils beneath HappySkin. These ingredients can leave a barrier between the skin and the fabric, preventing the DreamSkin® technology from working effectively. Any greasy residue should be gently cleansed from the skin before dressing.

We recommend using a compatible, paraffin-free and oil-free moisturiser where needed. See our recommended creams for suitable options.

What is the difference between HappySkin® and DreamSkin®?

HappySkin and DreamSkin use the same underlying DreamSkin® polymer technology but are made from different fabrics.

DreamSkin garments are made from medical-grade silk and are listed in the NHS Drug Tariff, meaning they may be supplied on prescription in the UK. HappySkin was introduced in 2019 as a more accessible range made from a soft cotton and TENCEL™ blend that families can purchase directly.

HappySkin is now available locally to New Zealand families, with New Zealand stock, support and delivery.

How long does the DreamSkin® technology last?

HappySkin garments and DreamSkin® treatment have been tested to last for up to 40 washes when the care instructions are followed.

The garment may remain wearable after this point, but the effectiveness of the technology has only been tested for that stated number of washes.

Which HappySkin garment should I try first?

Start with the area your child struggles with most.

Socks or gloves are an easy way to try HappySkin on a targeted area. For babies needing broader coverage, consider a bodysuit, leggings or sleepsuit. For older children, a round-neck top and footless leggings can be worn together or separately.

Short-sleeved garments are a good option for warmer weather and active days.

What is HappySkin?

HappySkin® clothing is ultra-soft base-layer wear designed for children with dry, sensitive or eczema-prone skin. Each garment is made from a breathable TENCEL™/cotton blend and coated with our unique DreamSkin® technology, which helps support the skin’s natural ability to stay hydrated, regulate temperature and break the scratch–itch cycle. Gentle, comfortable and free from paraffin and harsh irritants, HappySkin® offers wearable relief that helps kids sleep better, play easier and feel more comfortable in their own skin.

How does the DreamSkin technology work?

HappySkin® works by combining ultra-soft TENCEL™/cotton fabric with our unique DreamSkin® technology — a smart polymer coating that sits directly against the skin. This coating helps the skin naturally regulate moisture and temperature, two key triggers of itching and irritation. By keeping the skin balanced and reducing the urge to scratch, HappySkin® helps calm flare-prone skin and supports a healthier, more comfortable skin barrier — all through clothing they can simply wear day and night.

How do i prepare my child's skin

To get the best results from HappySkin®, start by giving your child a gentle daily bath using a sensitive-skin cleanser to wash away any paraffin, petroleum or thick oily creams that may be blocking the skin’s pores. These heavy products can trap heat and moisture, reducing the effectiveness of DreamSkin® technology. Once the skin is clean and pat-dry, apply only a light, paraffin-free moisturiser to any visibly dry areas, then dress them in their HappySkin® base layers. Preparing the skin this way allows the fabric to sit directly against the skin and support its natural ability to stay balanced, calm and comfortable.

Why do you advise against using paraffin and occlusive barrier creams?

Paraffin blocks the pores of the skin and can further irritate eczema. Paraffin-based creams are designed to form a barrier over the skin to retain moisture but do not allow the skin to release moisture through sweating. This can further irritate damaged eczema skin.

Your child may seem more irritated by their skin after applying barrier creams containing paraffin because of this and the never-ending cycle of creams not working continues!

That’s why we created HappySkin. We deliver our moisturising technology through a breathable fabric to allow the skin to be able to perform its natural moisture management cycle.

How should HappySkin fit?

HappySkin should fit snugly against the skin without feeling tight or restrictive. This allows the fabric to remain in direct contact with the areas it is designed to cover.

The garment should not dig in, leave deep marks, restrict movement or bunch excessively. Check the size guide and your child’s measurements before ordering.

How often should HappySkin be washed?

HappySkin® garments are easy to care for — just machine-wash them on a gentle cycle at 30°C using a mild, liquid detergent. Avoid fabric softeners, bleach, wool wash or any products containing oils or paraffin, as these can coat the fabric and reduce the effectiveness of the DreamSkin® technology. Tumble-dry on low or line-dry in the shade, and avoid ironing directly on printed areas.

Wash HappySkin as needed, particularly after a full day or night of wear, heavy sweating or soiling.

Having two garments in regular rotation can make washing and overnight use easier.
